Dear Bailey,

Most of our humans care for us so much that they really worry about us a little too much sometimes!  Your human needn't change your food too much, or at all, because that is what is actually making you a picky eater.  She isn't giving you enough of a chance to get used to one kind of food, and your tummy is probably feeling a little upset with all of these different choices.

Please tell her that the best thing to do is to create a good routine for you.  We crave routines!  She should set your meals out for no more than 20-30 minutes at a time, and at the end of that period she should take your food up & put it away.  Once you learn that she won't leave the food around for you all day you'll eat it when it's there; and she'll learn that you aren't going to let yourself starve!  Plus, leaving your food around all day can attract bugs and may make you overweight if she doesn't pay attention to how much you're eating.

Another thing to remember is that your human should be buying you food that is a good quality.  Teach her how to read the ingredient label!  The first ingredients should always be a recognizeable meat source.  (Chicken, Lamb, Venison...)  She also wants to find foods with healthy veggies and fruits in them for you- they help your coat!  She shouldn't be feeding you foods that have words like "Poultry by-products, ground corn, wheat gluten..."  She has no idea what those "meat by-products" are or where they're from- really scary places, actually, and all of that corn & wheat stuff are just fillers that make you poop more!  There's no nutrition in it for you, and it's very hard for you to digest!

Yes, these good quality foods (like Merrick, Nature's Recipe, Blue & Wellness) cost a few more Milk Bones than some of the other stuff out there, but she won't mind paying for it in the long run when she sees how beautiful your coat is and how healthy you are!

Wags & Licks,

Fido
